Enjoy the wonderful scenery of the Salzburger Land region from above! Zell am See - Kaprun is a top destination for paragliding, be it on your own or as part of a tandem flight with an experienced guide. The TAUERN SPA is an excellent base for paragliding in the area and the perfect place to relax after an adrenaline-pumping flight.
Take off from Schmittenhöhe
The area around Schmittenhöhe. one of two mountains above the TAUERN SPA, is known to offer some of the best flying in Austria. There are two take-off spots at 1900 metres (E & S) and 2000 metres (SW, W, NW, E, SE) above sea level. These can be reached quickly and easily using the TrassXpress or Schmittenhöhe Bahn lift. Take a little time to enjoy the view, which stretches across the Alps and includes the glistening Zeller See lake. On a clear day you can see the Kitzsteinhorn with its mighty glacier as well as the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain. Landings are not allowed inside the Hohe Tauern Nature Park, but there are several peaks in the region where paragliders can touch down at the summit.
Tandem flights
Tandem flights with an instructor last around 20 minutes and offer a unique opportunity to see the Alps from above. For those who want a little more challenge there is what is known as a 'thermal flight'. This involves climbing up high into the sky on hot-air thermals (for up to 40 minutes) before cruising back and touching down in Fürth - Piesendorf with fine views of the Zeller See lake.

Paragliding in Zell am See-Kaprun
Paragliders with a licence to fly and their own equipment will find excellent conditions in the area around the TAUERN SPA. From long-distance flights to acrobatics, there are plenty of options available. The closest paragliding school is in nearby Bramberg. In good or excellent thermal conditions pilots can easily ascend up to a height of 2500 metres before a descent of 1500 vertical metres down to the landing spot. There are almost always good thermal conditions from Schmittenhöhe into the Salzachtal Valley when the sun is shining – the ideal introduction to the joy of long-distance flying.
